Ohyama "B.M.W" Wataru (Trumpet & a leader of PE'Z)

「ジャズということなんですけども」

About Jazz.

「アメリカのジャズライブハウスで人が入らなくなり、どんどんジャズミュージシャンの仕事がなくなっていると聞きました」

I've heard steadily that there is not a lot of work for jazz musicians and people are going to live jazz shows less and less.

「その中でもいいミュージシャンは満員にしているということで、熱いジャズを演奏する人が減ってきているのかなと感じます」

A good musician plays in front of a lot of people. I have a feeling that musicians playing hot jazz are decreasing.

「ジャズ以外にも沢山の音楽があるので、ジャズの要素はその音楽にも影響されているけど、みんなそちらに流れている」

Elements of jazz are included in other styles of music. The listener can hear many songs influenced by jazz.

「いわゆるジャズシーンは小さくなっていっている感じがします」

I feel like the jazz scene is shrinking.

「PE'Zのようにジャズからいろんな要素を取り入れて新しい音楽を作っているバンドも沢山いるので、簡単には廃れないと思います」
A lot of bands take in a lot of elements of jazz and work with it. PE'Z too.Therefore I think that jazz won't disappear.

「PE'Zの5人が演奏するとPE'Zの音になる。ジャンルを問わずレゲエやジャズやロックであろうが、不思議にPE'Zのサウンドになる」

When the five members of PE'Z play our music, it becomes the sound of PE'Z. The genres we use are reggae or jazz or rock and more, but strangely it becomes the sound of PE'Z.

My name is Kadota. I play the Sax.

「現在のジャズシーンについて」

About the Jazz scene now.

「私はSAXプレーヤーなのですが、1950年代にマイルスデイビスと共演していた、キャノンボールやジョンコルトレーンが好きです」

I'm Sax player. I like Cannonball and John Coltrane. They had played with Miles Davis in 1950's.

「そのころの音楽をよく聴くので、あまり最近のジャズについては意識していません」

Because I listen to the jazz from around the 1950's, I do not hear recent jazz very much.

「PE'Zの音楽はこの5人でやるということと、作曲をしているリーダー(Ohyama)とヒイズミくん(Hiizumi)のセンスが重要だと思います」

I think that the sense of leader (Ohyama) and Hiizumi"s compositions plus playing with this group is important.

「この2つでPE'Zが成り立っていると思います」

I think that PE'Z consists of these two things.

Hello everyone. my name is Nirehara.I play bass for PE'Z.

「現在のジャズシーンについてですが」

About the Jazz scene now.

「ジャズといえば1950〜1960年代にすごい盛り上がりを見せましたね。僕も好きなミュージシャンはたくさんいます」

Jazz between 1950-1960 reached a peak in that generation. There are a lot of musicians whom I like.

「今となっては、ジャズはヒップホップの人にも受け継がれている気がします」

I feel like jazz is being inherited by people in hip-hop lately.

「我々、東洋人のPE'Zがバッチリ心意気を受け継いでいきたいと思っています」

we think PE'Z as a group wants to capture the spirit of Asian people.

「うまく音をブレンドするには？という質問ですが、リーダーのOhyama Wataruのセンスがいいからだと思います」

How do you make clashing music styles blend together? Well, I think that "Ohyama Wataru" (leader of PE'Z ) have good sense.

My name is Hiizumi. I play keyboard.

「現在のジャズシーンについてということですが」

About a Jazz scene now.

「僕としては正直よく分からないのですが」

I don't understand it well.

「どんな音楽シーンでも盛り上がっていればいいなと思います」

I think that any kind of music scene should warm up.

「僕達の音楽もそうやって盛り上げていきたいと思っています」

I think we want to layer our music too.

「質問の答えになっていないかも知れません、すみません」

Sorry, I don't know if we can answer that question.

「PE'Zのメンバーの個々に持っているものがにじみ出て、うまく混ざり合っているのではないかと思います」

i think that one-by-one the members of PE'Z bring something to the mix.

Kou (Drums)

「Hey! PE'Zのドラムの航です」

Hey! my name is KOU. I play drums for PE'Z.

「my name is KOU. call me "KOU"」

My name is Kou. Call me Kou.

「ドラム叩いてるんだよ！」

I play the drums.

「ジャズといっても僕も偏って聞いていますが、有名なドラマーだとアートブレイキーが好きです」

I am a passive listener of Jazz. I feel Art Blakey is good amoung famous drummers. I like him.

「ジャズメッセンジャーを聞いて、キースジャレットやリー・モーガンが好きになりました」

I heard "jazz messengers". it is very good album. When I heard it, I started to like Keith Jarrett and Lee Morgan, too.

「現在のジャズシーンといっても、その頃の音を聞くと昔のほうが熱いものがある気がします」

I have a feeling that much of the jazz in the old days is hotter than the stuff right now.

「PE'Zのサウンドはメンバーそれぞれが好きなジャンルがバラバラで、演奏しているときにうまく混ざるのではないかと思います」

I think when each member plays together the sound blends well.
